VOITTO Crane designed and exported a 3 ton European overhead crane to a metal manufacturing plant located in Jubail Industrial City, Saudi Arabia. To address the customer’s limited workshop headroom and the need to move away from traditional manual and forklift handling methods, VOITTO Crane utilized the factory’s existing track beams to custom-build a lightweight, low-headroom crane equipped with hoisting and travel mechanisms controlled by variable frequency drives (VFDs).
خلفية المشروع
In April 2026, we received an email inquiry from a metal manufacturing and machining company located in Jubail Industrial City, Saudi Arabia. The company’s workshop primarily produces components for the region’s oil and gas industry. As order volumes increased, the facility’s existing material handling method—a combination of manual handling and shared mobile forklifts—was no longer sufficient to meet the increasingly demanding daily production requirements.
During daily operations at the customer’s factory, the weight of workpieces and bundled raw materials often approaches the safety limit for manual handling. At the same time, the frequent movement of forklifts through narrow workshop aisles not only poses ongoing safety hazards but also slows down the flow of materials between workstations.
The client’s engineering team decided to procure a dedicated overhead crane system: the system needed to fit within the workshop’s existing architectural space, have a load capacity of up to 3 tons, and integrate seamlessly into daily operations to ensure that normal production was not disrupted.
Project Challenges & Requirements
After our technical team communicated with the client and understood their operating conditions, we faced the following project challenges:
- Limited Workshop Space: The existing steel structure at the customer’s factory provides a low clear height, making it impossible to use crane configurations that meet standard clear height requirements.
- High-precision Lifting Requirements: Machining and assembly operations require precise positioning in close proximity to fixed equipment.
- Stable Operation for High-frequency Tasks: The crane must be capable of handling multiple lifting cycles per shift without causing excessive wear on components.
- Compliance with International Standards: As an internationally oriented facility, the client requires that design documents comply with recognized engineering standards, rather than relying on non-standard manufacturing without technical documentation.
Customized Solution
A 3 ton European overhead crane directly addressed these constraints. Compared to traditional girder designs, the European single-girder structure features a lighter dead weight, a more compact end-girder profile, and lower headroom requirements, making it ideal for workshops with limited structural headroom. Its lightweight construction also reduces the load on the existing track girders.
When evaluating the on-site layout, engineers adjusted the crane’s span, end-girder dimensions, and travel configuration to align with the customer’s existing track girder locations, ensuring the equipment could be installed without modifying the workshop structure.

Project Highlights
- Lightweight European-standard box girder structure
- Low-headroom design suited to limited overhead clearance
- VFD-controlled hoisting and traveling for precision handling
- Engineered to fit existing runway beams without structural modification
- Full compliance documentation referencing FEM and ISO standards
Technical Advantages
- Reduced weight minimizes structural loads on the track system.
- Smooth acceleration and deceleration minimize load oscillations during positioning.
- The compact end-beam design simplifies installation in workshops with narrow spans.
- Multiple safety interlocks reduce operational risks.
- The use of high-efficiency, energy-saving motors lowers operating costs over the equipment’s entire lifecycle.
Manufacturing & Delivery
After confirming the engineering design with the customer (including the final specifications for span, lifting height, and control configuration), the production process went through the following stages:
- Production and Process Inspection—At every stage of production, structural welding, machining, and assembly processes were inspected against approved drawings.
- Load Testing—Upon completion of the crane’s manufacture, static and dynamic load tests were conducted at 100% and 125% of the rated load, respectively, in accordance with standard practices for FEM/ISO-compliant bridge cranes.
- Quality Inspection — A final inspection was conducted prior to disassembly and shipment, covering dimensional accuracy, weld quality, electrical wiring, and control system functionality.
- Export Packaging — Components were packaged in accordance with maritime transport requirements, and anti-corrosion and impact-resistant protective measures were applied to structural components.
- Shipment to Saudi Arabia — The crane was transported to the customer’s facility, and installation guidance was provided to the customer’s local installation team.
This process reflects the documentation and quality control procedures required by VOITTO Crane for FEM-standard overhead cranes intended for long-term industrial use, while also demonstrating the export operational expertise necessary to safely transport heavy lifting equipment to overseas project sites.
ملاحظات العملاء
Khalid Al-Otaibi, the account manager, said, “This crane is already in operation in the workshop and runs very smoothly. Its design is perfectly suited to our ceiling height, and the wireless remote control allows operators to easily and precisely position heavy loads near the workstations.
الخلاصة
This project demonstrates how a 3 ton European overhead crane was custom-engineered to meet the specific on-site operational requirements of the client. By engineering the span, headroom, and control configuration based on the client’s existing workshop layout, the delivered crane not only met spatial constraints, safety requirements, and precision handling needs but also eliminated the need for any structural modifications to the factory building.
As a manufacturer of European EOT cranes and a supplier of single-girder cranes with operations spanning the Middle East, Europe, Southeast Asia, and around the world, VOITTO Crane consistently treats every order as a customized lifting solution rather than a simple sale of standardized products.

الأسئلة الشائعة
1. What is a European overhead crane?
The European single-girder bridge crane features a lightweight box-section main girder and compact end beams and is designed in accordance with FEM standards. Compared to traditional structures, it offers advantages such as lightweight and smooth operation, making it ideal for environments with limited headroom.
2. How long does manufacturing and export to Saudi Arabia typically take?
The specific timeline varies depending on the project’s scale, but the entire process typically includes engineering approval, manufacturing, load testing, quality inspection, export packaging, and shipment by sea. Once the crane arrives on site, the customer will receive installation instructions to assist with commissioning.
3. Why choose a 3 ton crane for a small to mid-sized workshop?
A 3 ton capacity suits workshops handling moderate loads like machined components, material bundles, or assembly parts. It provides enough lifting power for daily operations while keeping the crane’s structure light, compact, and easier to fit within existing building constraints.
4. Can the crane be customized for specific workshop dimensions?
Yes. The crane’s span, lifting height, end-girder wheelbase, and control configuration are all custom-designed based on the customer’s existing track beams and headroom, rather than simply providing a standard catalog model. This approach avoids the need for costly structural modifications to the building.
5. What standards does this crane comply with?
The crane is designed with reference to FEM and ISO standards, covering structural design, load testing, and safety devices such as overload protection and limit switches.
