VOITTO Crane has delivered a 16/5-ton двухбалочный мостовой кран to a steel structure manufacturing company in Algeria. This customer operates a large-scale workshop specializing in the processing and manufacturing of steel plates, steel coils, and prefabricated steel structural components. These materials are not only extremely heavy and bulky but also place extremely high demands on lifting equipment.

With increasing production volumes and increasingly tight delivery schedules, the workshop’s existing material handling methods—which relied on manual labor and forklifts—could no longer keep pace with production demands. The customer sought a double girder overhead crane solution capable of serving multiple workstations simultaneously, featuring both a 16-ton main hoist and a 5-ton auxiliary hook for light-duty lifting, while also accommodating the structural constraints of the existing factory span.

Exporting a heavy-duty industrial double girder overhead crane to Algeria involves complex challenges across various areas, including engineering, regulatory compliance, and logistics, making it far more difficult than a standard domestic supply.

Dual-load Capacity Operations: Steel plates and coils are extremely heavy and irregularly shaped. The customer requires a main hook rated at 16 tons to handle large steel structural components. Additionally, a separate 5-ton auxiliary hook is needed to perform simultaneous precision lifting at auxiliary workstations. Both hooks must operate within the same overhead crane system without causing mechanical interference with each other.

Integration of Non-Standard Spans with Building Structures: The client’s existing workshop bays have specific dimensional constraints. The equipment must not only accommodate the non-standard spans and meet the specified clearance height requirements, but also be compatible with the existing track system.

Compliance Requirements: Algeria’s import standards for industrial machinery require the submission of complete CE certification documentation, including a Declaration of Conformity issued in accordance with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. In addition, customers require that all technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and maintenance documents be provided in both English and French.

Transportation and Testing: During transportation, the equipment faces risks such as corrosion, damage to its structural integrity, and complex installation at the destination. Given the port operations and the condition of Algeria’s inland transportation network, the crane must be disassembled into pre-planned modular transport units, which must be clearly labeled and treated with anti-corrosion coatings. In addition, VOITTO must ensure during the design phase that the equipment can be easily reassembled on-site.

VOITTO Crane Solution

After communicating with the client via video conference, we gained an understanding of their production requirements. For this project, our engineering team implemented appropriate measures in the areas of mechanical design, electrical systems, compliance, and logistics. VOITTO Crane customizes a double-girder overhead crane for a client.

1. VOITTO utilizes a dual-drum wire rope hoist trolley that integrates a 16-ton main hoist and a 5-ton auxiliary hoist onto a single trolley frame. The auxiliary hook is positioned at a higher level to provide additional lifting height when needed. Both hoist systems feature two-speed drives, enabling precise low-speed control during coil placement to minimize load sway.

2. Based on the on-site span assessment data provided by the customer, we selected a box-type main girder and applied precise camber to counteract deflection under full-rated load. The end beams are compatible with the client’s existing tracks and are equipped with adjustable end stops and buffer assemblies. In addition, a complete set of 2D and 3D assembly drawings, with dimensional tolerances specified in millimeters, was provided to guide the client’s local installation team during construction.

3. The VOITTO Crane team has compiled a complete set of technical documentation, including:

• Declaration of Conformity — Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC
• Risk Assessment Report prepared in accordance with EN 13001-1 and EN 13001-2
• Load Test Certificate (125% static / 110% dynamic)
• Electrical safety documentation prepared in accordance with IEC 60204-32
• Complete operation and maintenance manual in both English and French
• Spare parts list including international standard part numbers

4. All equipment surfaces have undergone anti-corrosion treatment. All electrical cabinets have a protection rating of at least IP54. The entire unit is disassembled into five main shipping units, each of which is individually packaged and labeled with an assembly sequence number, then placed in a reinforced wooden crate containing desiccant. The shipping crate includes an illustrated step-by-step installation guide.

5. Given that this project involves cross-border operations, the VOITTO technical team provided 24/7 prompt response and remote debugging support.

After successfully passing factory acceptance testing, this 16/5-ton double girder overhead crane was delivered to a customer in Algeria in the second quarter of 2026. With remote technical guidance from VOITTO, on-site installation took only eight working days, and the crane passed all commissioning tests on the first attempt.
