Project Overview

In March, we received an inquiry for double-girder overhead cranes from an old customer in Qatar. The customer is a professional steel manufacturer and distributor. They said they would use these overhead cranes to hoist steel coils in the proposed warehouse. We first learned about the size of the warehouse that the customer was going to build and the specific requirements for lifting steel coils.

The customer had ordered our bridge cranes before. So we knew their preference for European designs. Therefore, we considered recommending the European double girder NLH overhead crane. It is suitable for machining workshops, auxiliary workshops of metallurgical plants, warehouses, material yards, etc. It can replace ordinary double-beam bridge cranes. It can also be used in steel workshops for transshipment and loading or unloading operations.

Project Challenges

We need to comprehensively consider both the features of steel coils (heavy weight, difficult to control the center of gravity, easy to roll) and the limitations of the warehouse operating environments. Therefore, when lifting steel coils in the proposed warehouse, there are multiple challenges:

1. Lifting Capacity and Structural Strength: First, the weight of the steel coils is very large. So the overhead crane must withstand instantaneous impact loads during lifting. The load-bearing capacity and structural strength of the lifting equipment are extremely high. Insufficient load or insufficient rigidity may cause safety accidents.

2. Warehouse Operating Environment Constrictions: Secondly, the proposed warehouse has restrictions on parameters such as building clearance height, crane footprint, and wheel pressure. The large size, large wheel pressure, and high clearance of the crane will compress the storage space, increase the construction cost, and increase the initial investment respectively.

3. Unstable Lifting and Operating Errors: Furthermore, the center of gravity of the steel coil is high and it is easy to roll. Unstable equipment during lifting may cause the steel coil to slip and collide. Operational errors may cause damage to the steel coil or casualties.

4. High-Frequency Operation, Equipment Wear and Failure: Then, the warehouse steel coils are lifted frequently, requiring the crane to lift quickly and position accurately. Slow operation and low positioning will reduce efficiency. High-frequency equipment is prone to wear, and frequent failures will affect warehouse turnover.

5. Euipment Maintenance Cost: Finally, the planned warehouse has limited maintenance resources. The complex equipment structure and low component versatility will increase maintenance difficulty and cost.

VOITTO Crane’s Solution

Subsequently, we provided the Qatari customer with the design drawings of the 30 ton European electric hoist double-beam NLH overhead crane for reference in workshop design. The customer was very satisfied with our design plan. After good communication between engineers from both sides, we finally confirmed the warehouse design and crane design. According to customer requirements, we also provide other crane accessories, such as NRT type trolley type electric hoist and K Series Three-in-one Crane Motor Reducer.

To meet the requirements of this project, VOITTO Crane offers 8 sets of customized 30 ton overhead crane with the following main functional features:

1. Design and manufacturing standards: NLH overhead cranes are designed and manufactured according to European FEM standards and international standards such as DIN and ISO. It adopts advanced modular design concepts. The overall technical level is internationally advanced and domestically leading.

2. Structural features: It adopts compact electric hoists and high-strength materials. The overall size of the crane is small, the wheel pressure is small, and the building clearance height is low. It can effectively increase the working space in the factory. At the same time, it reduces the height and cost of factory construction.

3. Safety protection device:

  • Overload protection: We are equipped with overload protection devices. When the lifting weight exceeds the rated lifting weight, the lifting operation is automatically stopped to prevent the crane from being damaged due to overload.
  • Limit protection: We set the lifting height limit and the running stroke limit. Avoid crane components from exceeding the safe operating range and prevent accidents such as collisions and derailment.
  • Zero position protection: Ensure that each operating handle of the crane is in zero position before starting to prevent safety accidents caused by misoperation.
  • Anti-collision protection: We have installed contact and non-contact infrared sensor anti-collision devices. For multiple cranes running on the same track, when the distance between the cranes is close to the set value, an audible and visual alarm will be issued. And it will automatically slow down or stop. Avoid collisions between cranes.

Outcome

According to the customer’s requirements, our factory soon started production as planned. After we completed the production at the end of June, we passed the inspection of a third-party agency. We quickly completed all export procedures. At present, all the goods have been packed and shipped to Qingdao Port for loading. The customer received the goods in early July, and our engineers went to the site to guide the installation and commissioning. 8 sets of NLH overhead crane equipment are now in normal use in the steel plant warehouse to lift steel coils.

Yesterday, the project manager of the Qatari customer sent us a thank-you email. He then had a video call with the salesperson and showed us the whole process of the lifting operation in their steel plant warehouse. He said, “VOITTO Crane’s cranes are stable in operation, highly efficient, and have no faults or problems. He believes in VOITTO Crane’s products very much and has repurchased them twice.
